About the event
Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (MRONJ) remains a challenging condition for both general dentists and specialists, as antiresorptive and antiangiogenic therapies become increasingly common. This lecture provides a practical, clinically oriented review of MRONJ, with emphasis on pathophysiology, patient risk assessment, diagnosis, staging, and evidence-based management strategies.
Participants will learn how various drug classes—including bisphosphonates, RANKL inhibitors, and antiangiogenic agents—affect bone turnover and vascularity, and how these mechanisms contribute to osteonecrosis. Current AAOMS guidelines will be discussed, along with real clinical cases illustrating a range of presentations from early radiographic changes to advanced necrosis with complications. Treatment protocols, including medical management, surgical principles, and adjunctive therapies will also be covered.
By the end of the session, attendees will be better equipped to identify at-risk patients, coordinate care, prevent complications, and manage MRONJ when it occurs.
